The way in which Jenkins describes play here is that it is no longer a form of past time or leisure as many people in the past have seen its purpose.  Play as Jenkins describes in the age of New Media Literacy is a new way of critical thinking, problem solving and participation.  An example would be the use of Promethean Boards in the classroom.  A first grade teacher is able to have a math lesson that also takes place on a basketball court (see video below).

“Teachers can then build on this intuitive and experiential learning in the classroom, introducing equations, diagrams, or visualizations that help them to better understand the underlying principles that they are deploying and then sending them back to play through the levels again and improve their performance” (Jenkins 25).

While the introduction of these boards has been seen as beneficial to the classroom, while producing the short film, I experienced a form of misunderstanding by those who did not understand how interactive white boards are helpful.  “Some have expressed skepticism that schools should or could teach young people how to play. This resistance reflects the confusion between play as a source of fun and play as a form of engagement” (Jenkins 24).

This is a very interesting post. The best part about your post was the video, which portrayed some very great examples of participatory design using various new media artifacts. However, it was not clear what specific skill you were alluding to in the Henry Jenkins whitepaper. I also would have liked you to elaborate more on some of the points you made.

I am going to give you a satisfactory, but I expect a better written post in the future.

Satisfactory. The video really shows how new media forms can help people learn in unconventional ways. The video was a great way to get your point across.
